Vintage "Nooitgedagt" wooden toy boat

Nooitgedagt Toys. 

Wooden toy boat on red wheels of the famous Dutch toymaker "Nooitgedagt". 

Nooitgedagt wooden toys were made from the thirties of the last century in a time of great crisis. 

Wooden boat

The economic crisis at the beginning of the 1930s demanded inventiveness of the IJlster skating and tools manufacturer. The sale of their specialty; Planes, chisels, workbenches and skates was drastically reduced. Around 1933 Jan Nooitgedagt Jarigs came up with the plan to make wooden toys from waste wood wich was left over from the production of skates and tools. 

This wasn't a big success in the beginning. Soon realizing they had to make toys of good wood. The choice for the production of wooden toys, had to do with the presence of equipment and qualified personnel. Soon they found out that making toys was something different. Toys had to be responsible, the child had to like it and the parents should buy it.

In the years 1933 to 36, they met a German representative, who knew what was required in this branch. It was Mr. J. van Wesel, which later (1-1-1939) was also hired. This man had the right feeling, was enthusiastic and knowledgeable. With his rich experience the name "Nooitgedagt" became a household name in the toy world. He came up with new ideas and made also sure the toys complied with the requirements of the consumers. The toys had to be graceful and at the same time practical and also strong to withstand the research drift of the infants.

The Nooitgedagt toys hit the market and conquered it!

It was something different and had its own style, the name Nooitgedagt worthy. The illustrious tradition was continued with the production of toys! Nooitgedagt toys were made not only their our country but also exported to many other countries. When finally the right formula was found, thousands of blocks, cars, buses, horses, elephants, ducks, bunnies, boats, trains etc. went to the homes over a large part of the world.

Because the popularity of plastic toys and especially the competition from the Eastern countries the toy production was stopped in 1975.
