Old Dutch knitting, corner or telephone chair

Typical Dutch knitting chair.​ 

Marvelous corner chair from Holland. Original rush seat in great condition. This 'corner chair' with cane seat is from origin a typical Old Dutch knitting chair. 

Oak corner chair with twisted legs and rush seat. Older women were often knitting in these chairs. These kind of chairs were conducted with only one armrest so that the elbow would not be hampered during knitting and women could not hurt their arm. The knob legs and frame are first seen during the era of Louis XIII (1600). 

Later in the 20th century this chair was for the same reason also frequently used as a telephone seat. The name corner chair is obvious because the chair fits perfectly in the corner of a room.
