Text on side of tin:

For many centuries Inns have figured prominently in social and commercial life. They have given comfort to weary crusaders, rest for pilgrims, shelter for busy merchants and nomadic drovers.

Without Inns the stage-coach service could not have survived. Tired and shaken passengers received respite from the discomfort of their travels and fresh horses were supplied. Inns were valuable centres of communication where news, ideas and gossip were exchanged.

Warmth, jollity and good-humour are generated by the cosy atmosphere, charactaristics of these mellow historic buildings. They also offer temporary oblivion fromthe world, allowing good-will, companionship and easy conversation to restore a balanced frame of mind.
