"Nooitgedagt"
The economic crisis at the beginning of the 1930s demanded inventiveness from the IJlster skates and tool manufacturer. The sale of their specialty; Planers, chisels, workbenches, and skates went down drastically. Around 1933, Jan jarigs Nooitgedagt came up with the plan to make toys from waste wood that remained from the production of skates and tools.

In the beginning, this was not a great success. Soon it was realized that toys also had to be made of sound wood. That the choice fell on the production of wooden toys, had to do with the presence of machines and skilled personnel. Soon it turned out that making toys was a profession apart. The toy must be responsible, the child must like it and the parents must want to buy it.

In the years 1933 to 36 one gets acquainted with a German representative, who knew what was asked in this respect. It was Mr. J. van Wesel, who was also employed later (1-1-1939). This man had a feeling for this profession, was enthusiastic and knowledgeable. With his rich experience, he contributed to the fact that the name Nooitgedagt was also a concept in the toy world. He came up with new ideas and helped to ensure that the toys met the consumer's demands. The toy had to be graceful and at the same time effective and also with its proverbial strength it would be able to withstand the greatest research drive of the children.

The Nooitgedagt toy came on the market and captured it!

It was something else and had its own style, worthy of the name Nooitgedagt. The illustrious tradition was also continued with the production of toys! Nooitgedagt toys were made not only for our country but also exported to many countries. When finally the right formula was found, thousands of block boxes, cars, buses, horses, elephants, ducks, bunnies, boats, trains, etc. went to living rooms over a large part of the world.

Due to the rise of plastic toys and especially competition from the Eastern Bloc countries, the production of toys was stopped in 1975.

Nooitgedagt still exists and mainly makes tools and workbenches.
