Description
Vintage tin drum with a Dutch water landscape for cocoa powder from Pette, Wormerveer. Rectangular drum with lock and equipped with a hinged lid. Both on the lid and on the sides of this tin there are various panoramas of the famous Dutch water landscape 'De Zaanze Schans' with images of various windmills and characteristic houses. The hinge is a so-called needle hinge. On the underside, this can is marked with "Pette, Wormerveer cocoa powder.

Condition
This can is in an original vintage condition with various traces of use and age-related traces of wear. Four feet have once adorned the underside, but these are no longer present. with a lock at the front, but as often unfortunately without a key.

Pette was a chocolate factory in Wormerveer, founded by the Pette family in 1872 as Chocolate Factory J. Pette Hzn. In 1899 the first stone factory was built where in 1901 a sugar factory was added. In 1903, the chocolate and sugar factory were separated and the business form was converted into an N.V. In 1907 a new chocolate factory was built at the Marktstraat in Wormerveer. In 1912 the family Kaars Sijpesteijn joined. In 1916 the so-called cocoa tower and in 1919 the chocolate factory was built. The architect was Mart J. Stam. The same architect also designed the buildings for Rice Mill "Mercurius" in Wormer. Pette's buildings were among the first to be built with a concrete structure.

The company has experienced a significant flowering period until the thirties. There were 400 people working at the peak. In 1937, as a result of increased competition and the consequences of the economic crisis, the curtain fell for Pette and the company was taken over by Boon.
