Amsterdamse koggetjes
The tasty koggetje is now available everywhere, but that has been different. 'In 1935, the Dutch Confectioners' Association praised a competition for a real Amsterdam biscuit. The winner invented the Amsterdam Koggetje (these are a kind of biscuits that look very like chatter). The cookie is named after the 'Koggen (medieval merchant ships), which also appear in the oldest coat of arms of Amsterdam.

In the old coat of arms of Amsterdam there was a Kog, a ship. At the former city hall of Amsterdam, the current Palace on the dam, is a wind vane with a picture of the Kog ship.
