Old antique C.A.L. hand coffee grinder

C.A.L hand coffee grinder. 

Nice big free standing, heavy model wooden hand coffee grinder by C.A.L. the famous German brand with the rooster. Still works well, but of course especially lovely as decoration. A small corner of the base plate is missing (picture 4). 

This hand grinder is an antique wooden model is between 100 and 120 years old with collection tray. This model coffee grinder was used sitting, while fixedly held between the knees, after which the coffee beans were grind in pieces with the rotary pendulum.

Manual coffee grinders have been largely supplanted by electrically powered ones where the object is simply to get the job done; manual grinders are used more for their appearance, and are often more costly than electric models.
