Set of Tjoklat tins

Set of three Tjoklat tins. 

Tin packaging in gold color with gossamer decoration. In the middle of the camée in relief a kneeling woman who holds a bowl of beans and a dancing woman with cloth. Mady Townsend, befriended with Mr. Sickesz, seated model for the design of the camée. Jannes de Vries, member of the Groningen painters Squad, was responsible for the design of the well-known mark. The creator of the image is the artist George Witjes.

This set consists of three different kind of Tjoklat tins.

Ovale tin for TJOKLAT camee-pastilles with white-golden decoration and dancing woman in relief, 200 g. The shape of the tin is oval and has a loose closing lid. The decoration of the tin consists of a gold colored background, on the lid an ornamental border with white flowers embossed with white dancing woman with cloth. Text: Tjoklat camee-pastilles; Tjoklat - Fabriek N.V. Amsterdam.

Round tin with loose lid, “Hollandsch-Zwitsersche chocoladefabriek, Tjoklat camée pastilles”, brown and gold colored. Round tin with bulged lid and embossed Asian woman sitting on the lower legs with her hands raised holding a bowl of cocoa fruit. Around this image is an beaded edge. On the outside of the lid a lace-like ornamentation.

Rectangular tin with hinged lid. Golden decoration with dark decorative lines. Embossed image of a kneeling woman with bowl and text. This text can also befound embossed at the bottom. Text: Nieuwe pastilles, Tjoklat camee-pastilles, Tjoklatfabriek n.v. Amsterdam.

On the bottom 'Tjoklat-Fabriek N.V. Amsterdam'. The lid has a sharp edge and rests on the border. At the bottom an extra border for reinforcement. Goldcolored at the inside.

Chocolate became known in the Netherlands because it was traveling along with the Duke of Alva. Then coffee and chocolate houses arose in The Netherlands. In 1660 signs hung in Amsterdam with the text "Here one bestows Chocolate".

Dutch producers of chocolate include Barony, A. Driessen, Droste, Verkade, Rademaker, Union Edel Chocolate Van Houten, Venz and Tony's Chocolonely. A Dutch brand which doesn't exist anymore was Tjoklat, the Malaysian word for chocolate.
