Description
Vintage rectangular tin box with a picture of a doctor, for peppermint from King fabrics Tonnema, Sneek. The decoration of this tin consists of a light gray surface with an image of loose peppermints over the entire tin. This tin has a hinged lid that has a drawing in a rectangle with a male doctor in white against a blue background.

The inside of the lid shows besides the aforementioned decorations the peppermint plant (Mentha piperita) and text; KING Natural Pure Peppermint; Peppermint plant / Mentha piperita; Exciting and invigorating; Kingfabrieken Tonnema B.V. Sneek.

Condition
This tin is in a vintage condition with some traces of use and wear.

KING peppermint is traditionally produced in the Tonnemafabriek in Sneek. The brand has been owned by candy multinational Cloetta since 2012, which then merged with the originally Dutch Leaf International.

In 1902 the sugar-making company Tonnema was founded in Sneek. That made peppermint for various customers in different qualities and flavors. In the twenties, this approach was abandoned and opted for a strict brand and quality policy. In 1922 the own brand was deposited: KING, the king of the peppermint. KING stood for Quality In Nothing Unmatched. The peppermint was no longer sold separately, from 1927 onwards, the roles that were hand-worked in the first years were "complicated".

Mentha piperita
Peppermint (Mentha piperita) is a plant that is very suitable for making peppermint candy. The plant is grown in England, France, Japan and the United States. The mentha piperita is about fifty centimeters high and has a soft green color. When it is time for the harvest, the plants are cut off. Then they stay on the land for a while to dry. This plant has a camphor-like taste in its own right, but after spice extraction the typical peppermint flavor is created.
