Tin box by Tjoklat Camée-Pastilles with on the lid an image of a kneeling woman holding a bowl.

Description
Rectangular gold colored tin box with a hinged transfer lid and rolled edge. Made with a longitudinal seam and bottom. The hinge consists of loose tabs. The decoration of this tin consists of a gold-colored surface with dark decorative lines. Embossed on the lid an image of a kneeling woman with bowl filled with pods of the cocoa bean. Text embossed on the bottom: Tjoklat cameo pastilles; Tjoklatfabriek n.v. Amsterdam. Over this a sticker with text: Tjoklat pastilles milk chocolate.

Condition
This tin is in a neat vintage condition with some traces of use.

  • Length: 17 cm.
  • Width: 11 cm.

Chocolate was known in the Netherlands because it was traveling with the Duke of Alva. Subsequently coffee and chocolate houses were created in the Netherlands. In 1660 there were signs in Amsterdam with the text "Hier schenckt men Seculatie". Old Dutch for "He we pour chocolate".

Dutch chocolate producers include Baronie, A. Driessen, Droste, Verkade, Rademaker, Union Edel Chocolate, Van Houten, Venz and Tony's Chocolonely. A no more existing Dutch brand is Tjoklat.

Tjoklat is the Malaysian word for chocolate.
