Vintage 60s-70s Cooler or Frigobox made by Curver in red / white.

  • Manufacturer: Curver Benelux BV
  • Date of manufacture: 1960 - 1970

Description
Curver cooler in the trendy color combination white and red. The lid is sealed airtight by means of the two iron brackets which, when brought together, also form the handle.

This original Curver cooler is a sealed, thermally well insulated, plastic box in which food or other products can be stored or kept cool or cool. The cool box shown here is double-walled.

With this model, cooling is achieved by cooling elements that absorb heat. Water is poured into such a cooling element, which must then be frozen in a freezer. There are also sealed cooling elements that contain a special liquid with a high heat capacity, so that the element can absorb a lot of heat after cooling in the freezer.

This cool box is ideal for use at the campsites or for a day at the beach, for example. The advantage of a cool box is that the food and drink stay cold for a long time and therefore have a longer shelf life and often taste better.

A genuine original sixties / seventies cooler from Curver. Say for yourself, that makes camping or picnicking very enjoyable.

Marked on the bottom with: Curver.

Condition
This Curver cool box is in a good vintage condition with normal traces of use and age-related traces of wear.

A cooler, portable ice chest, ice box, cool box, chilly bin (in New Zealand), or esky (Australia) is an insulated box used to keep food or drink cool.

Ice cubes are most commonly placed in it to help the contents inside stay cool. Ice packs are sometimes used, as they either contain the melting water inside, or have a gel sealed inside that stays cold longer than plain ice (absorbing heat as it changes phase).

Coolers are often taken on picnics, and on vacation or holiday. Where summers are hot, they may also be used just for getting cold groceries home from the store, such as keeping ice cream from melting in a hot automobile. Even without adding ice, this can be helpful, particularly if the trip home will be lengthy.

Insulated beverage cooler.
They are usually made with interior and exterior shells of plastic, with a hard foam in between. They come in sizes from small personal ones to large family ones with wheels. Disposable ones are made solely from polystyrene foam (such as is a disposable coffee cup) about 2 cm or one inch thick. Most reusable ones have molded-in handles; a few have shoulder straps.

CURVER
Curver Benelux BV
, known from the Curver brand, is originally a Dutch producer of household plastic articles. The company's products are sold by chain stores in Europe and beyond. Curver started in 1949 as a small family business and became one of the pioneers in the use of plastics in the manufacture of products for daily use. In 2015, the company is part of the largest producer of plastic items in Europe.

The brothers-in-law Pierre Curtius and Ad Verschuren start in May 1949 in Tilburg with the production of tubular glass for the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industry. The company was named Curver, a contraction of the surnames of promoters. Three years later the company moved to nearby Rijen.

From 1954 Curver made the caps of their tubular glass from plastic. Many companies were skeptical about the use of plastic at the time. The solidity of traditional materials such as wood, metal and glass was pointed out. Because Curver was one of the first companies to have an eye for the possibilities of plastic, the company developed into a trendsetter in this area.
