Kanis & Gunnink.

In 1880, Hendrik Kanis set up a shop in Oriental wares in Kampen, Holland. Frans Gunnink came to work here but wanted to resign in 1885, after meeting Paul Krüger in Kampen. The South African state president visited the Netherlands to get support for the Boer Republic.

Gunnink had accepted the invitation to emigrate and become a teacher in South Africa. Kanis, however, did not like him to go and offered Gunnink a co-management post in the company, which would continue under the name Kanis & Gunnink.

Kanis & Gunnink was taken over by Douwe Egberts in 1969.
