Brinta is an acronym for Breakfast instant Tarwe (wheat), is a Dutch breakfast product.
Brinta first appeared on the market in 1944. The process for making the instant grain product was developed by Frederik André Möller (Dutch, Groningen). Wheat grains are crushed and mixed with water to form a mash. It is then boiled, pressed, dried and ground. The production was taken up in a Willem Albert Scholten factory, located in Foxhol.
The breakfast porridge was introduced in the Netherlands with an American-style advertising campaign. In 1963, brand awareness reached a peak after skating competition (eleven cities race) winner Reinier Paping replied to Joop van Zijl's (press) question what he had eaten beforehand, 'Oh just a light fare, a plate of Brinta'. This statement was then used in the following advertising campaign.
