Hendrik van Limborch (9 March 1681 - 3 February 1759) was a painter and engraver from the Northern Netherlands.

Limborch was born in The Hague as the son of a lawyer and became the pupil of Jan Hendrik Brandon, Robbert Duval, Jan de Baen and Adriaen van der Werff.

Limborch is known for portraits and historical allegories and died in The Hague.

Ferdinand Georg Waldmüller (January 15, 1793 in Vienna - August 23, 1865 in Hinterbrühl, Austria) was an Austrian painter and writer. Waldmüller was one of the most important Austrian painters from the Biedermeier period.

Ferdinand Georg Waldmüller was one of the most important Austrian painters from the Biedermeier period. Whether it was the conquest of the landscape and thus the convincing representation of proximity or distance, the accurate characterization of the human face, the detailed and refined description of textures or the representation of everyday life in the countryside: his works - brilliant, explanatory, moralizing, and socially critical - influenced an entire generation of artists. As an advocate of natural observation and Plein air painting, as well as a critic of academic painting, Waldmüller was far ahead of his time.

Waldmuller died on August 23, 1865 in Hinterbrühl, Austria.

Jan Steen
Jan Havickszoon Steen (Leiden, 1626 - there, buried February 3, 1679) was a Dutch painter from the 17th century, the time of the Northern Netherlands baroque painting. His works are world-famous for his humorous and ironic view of life. He is best known for his comic-like paintings with a messy and wild household, pub scenes and quacks who try to remedy heartache with medication. However, his repertoire also contains serious history pieces, other genre scenes and some portraits. The Dutch expressions 'a household of Jan Steen' and 'bringing life to the brewery' are derived from him.

Steen's painting style belongs to Baroque and Caravaggism. Everyday life was Steen's most important topic. Many of the scenes were lively, even chaotic and lusty. Such scenes were so characteristic that a household of Jan Steen has become a widely used Dutch saying.

Subtle hints and many symbols in his paintings make it plausible that Steen did not want to invite the viewer so much as to imitate what was shown, but rather to admonish him. Many of Steen's paintings refer to old Dutch proverbs or literature. The painter's family often acted as a model.

Steen painted a number of self-portraits. These canvases do not show too much vanity. You regularly see a small dog popping up on the scenes, this is an old Dutch dog breed: the Kooikerhondje.

Steen has engaged in many themes: he painted historical, mythological and religious scenes, portraits, still lifes and natural scenes. His images of children are praised, as well as his command of light and attention to detail, especially in textiles. Steen made around 400 paintings.

Steen's contemporaries also appreciated his work, with the result that he got paid fairly well. He had no students, but his work would become a source of inspiration for many colleagues.

Johann August Wilhelm Sohn (born on August 29, 1829 in Berlin, † March 16, 1899 in Pützchen near Bonn) was a German painter from the school in Düsseldorf.

He went to Düsseldorf in 1847 and received his education through Rudolf Wiegmann, Theodor Hildebrandt, Friedrich Wilhelm von Schadow and his uncle Karl Ferdinand Sohn, whom he supplemented by travelling.

In the spirit of the painting school, he first painted religious historical paintings, such as the great Christ on the stormy seas, which even in the dull brown colour, nor in the conventional expression of the figures, even suggested his later development. Some other similar images, for example, An unfinished Boniface followed, for example, until the study of the Dutch lesser masters brought about a sudden change, with which he turned to genre painting.
