Round vintage cookie tin executed with beaded pattern.

  • Manufacturer: Verblifa, De Vereenigde Blikfabrieken
  • Date of manufacture: 1950 - 1960

Description
Round vintage cookie tin with a loose double-walled lid with an egg-shaped button on top. The lid is pressed into the body of the tin and at the same time has an overhanging rounded edge. Both the lid and the tin itself are embossed with an image of a floral rosette and colourful decorations in dots and stripes, the so-called bead motif. This tin stands on three semi-circular spherical feet that are expressed in the bottom.

The designer of this tin is Jan van Erkelens for Verblifa.

A hand-painted test tin is not sufficient for this type of tin, because the relief cannot be expressed. The relief was therefore imitated with the help of beads so that the designer can still form an image.

Verblifa, De Vereenigde Blikfabrieken was a Dutch company that manufactured tin packaging, in addition to sheet-metal articles, enamel plates, household articles, sheet and stamping work and cooking and heating articles. Plastic items were also manufactured. The head office was located in Amsterdam and the company had factories in Weesp, Krommenie, Hillegersberg, Doesburg, Dordrecht, Delft, Oudenbosch and Utrecht.

The Vereenigde Blikfabrieken was founded in 1912 and was the result of a merger between two longer-standing Zaanse tin factories, the NV to operate Verwer's Factories with NV Zaanlandsche Blikfabriek v / h Woud & Schaap, both in Krommenie. The Verwer company had a branch in Utrecht, the Woud company had purchased the shares of NV Weesper Blikfabrieken v / h A.C. Vis in Weesp in 1912 and had a branch under construction in Amsterdam. The combination soon sought to expand the number of companies and also sought geographical expansion. In January 1913, for example, the factory was bought by G. Stroman in Rotterdam (1915: Hillegersberg). After this connection, a further concentration followed in the Dutch can manufacturing, in which Verblifa had an active share. From 1916 the company Lorrewa in Delft became part, in 1917 the factory of A. den Boer Wzn. in Rotterdam. In 1924, the factory and inventory of the bankrupt NV Lithographic Metal Printing Company and Blikemballagefabriek v / h A. Meyers Jr. purchased in Dordrecht. The building was divested again in 1926, while in that year a number of automatic machines for mass production were purchased at the public auction of NV Vereenigde Emballagefabrieken in Weesp. In 1930, Verblifa acquired practically all shares in the Woud & Bekkers Blikfabrieken, which under the former name Dordrechtsche Metaalwarenfabriek v / h Wed. J. Bekkers & Zoon went through Verblifa as an independent company.
