Arc International was founded in 1825 in the village of Arques in northern France by Alexander des Lyons de Noircarm, who started production with glass storage containers known as "dame-jeanne", which were very popular at the time. In the following years, the company diversified into cooking and eating glassware for consumers. In the 1960s, the company completely mastered the production process of glassware and other finer glassware products.
From 1897 the company was dominated by the Durand family, who eventually bought the company completely in 1926. The family remains the sole owner to this day. The company has applied a number of practices, making it one of Europe's leading glass producers for mass production.
To date, brands under the Arc International group include Luminarc (launched in 1948), Arcopal (1958) Arcoroc (launched in 1963), Cristal d'Arques launched in Europe in 1968).
The Cristal d'Arques brand, founded in 1968, originated from the industrialization of crystal steel glasses, developed by Arc International. This innovation leads to mass market commercialization and affordability of a material that was previously regarded as luxury.
