Vintage Verkade cookie tin with text Semper Servat Virtvtem.

Description
Rectangular tin box with rounded corners and provided with a separate lid. The box has a longitudinal seam on one of the corners. The decoration of this tin consists of a red copper-colored loose cover lid executed in hammer-embossed with in the center the well-known logo of the rider on horseback. Around this in a round circle the Latin text: Semper Servat Virtvtem Verkade (Verkade retains its strength). The lid is finished with a border of dots. The tin box has a brass yellow color. The sides are finished with dots in relief. The bottom of the can bears the text: Koninklijke Verkade factories N.V., Zaandam - Holland with above it a small Verkade logo in the shape of a rider on horseback.

Condition
This tin is in an original vintage condition with traces of use and age-related traces of wear.

Verkade is originally a Dutch company that produced items such as rusk, chocolate and cake. Tea lights were also made for some time. The Verkade factories have traditionally been established in Zaandam and are important in the development of the Zaanstreek food industry.

On 2 May 1886, Ericus Gerhardus Verkade opened his steam bread and biscuit factory 'De Ruyter' (the rider) in a former patent oil factory on the Zaan. He simply started making bread and rusks. The success he achieved with this was so great that he regularly added new products to his assortment.

"De Ruyter" is now still recognizable in the logo of the Verkade brand. In the course of time, Verkade switched to making cookies and chocolate.

In 1950 Verkade obtained the predicate Royal.
