Varopa
Already in 1879 there was the bread bakery of Wilhelmus Paijmans at the address Goirke 6, later changed to Julianpark 6 and Oude Lind 33. In 1900 the business was already continued by his son Adrianus, who was married to Maria Schellekens in 1898. Until 1924 the bakery was therefore called A. Paijmans-Schellekens. A few years earlier, Hendrikus van Rooij, who was married in 1921 to daughter Maria Paijmans, was mentioned as a baker at the same address. The bakery was given new buildings in 1928. From the early 1930s, the case was called H.C. van Rooij-Paijmans and from at least 1937 rusks were also produced here.
From the 1960s there was a bread, toast and cake factory and the company name was abbreviated to Varopa. In 1969, Varopa Bakeries was largely destroyed by fire. The company was taken over by Bolletje in 1983. Varopa had the well-known advertising slogan "Freshly roasted, freshly packed, fresh on the table".
