Description
Rectangular vintage storage tin for spiced old-Dutch speculaas. Released by the SRV dairy service. The tin is equipped with a hinged lid, with a black and white image of a mill.

The decoration of this tin consists of a light brown background with gold colored frames in which various mills are depicted in black and white.

The inside of the tin is clean and has a golden colour. Raised edge at the bottom and with the SRV dairy service logo.

Condition
This tin is in a neat vintage condition with normal traces of use and age-related traces of wear.

SRV
The SRV is best known in the Netherlands as a small mobile supermarket.

The name stands for 'Rational Sales Together' (Samen Rationeel Verkopen). Later it was said that the first three consonants from the word "SeRVice" were involved. SRV originated in 1966 from the collaboration of a number of wholesalers who mainly supplied the milk trade throughout the Netherlands: Super, Ratio and Knipkaart.

The SRV was initially set up as a purchasing organization. The concept of the mobile supermarket was devised by the later Philips CEO Cor Boonstra when he was sales manager at the Zuivel Handel Maatschappij. From 1966 to 1974, Boonstra was the first SRV director under the chair of E.W. Heeremans. SRV later became a sales formula with brochures, savings coins and savings stamps, own brands, daily newspaper and even TV advertising.

The SRV formula was canceled in 1995. The formula of the mobile shop has been under pressure from supermarkets with a large assortment since the 1970s and the disappearance of the standard housewife. The car mainly comes in villages or residential areas where there is no supermarket (anymore). In 2019 there are still around 100 mobile stores in the Netherlands.
