Scheurich always uses white clay. The vases are signed 'W.GERMANY' or 'WEST GERMANY' followed by three numbers (denoting the model number), a dash and two numbers (denoting the height of the product).
Scheurich was founded in 1928 by Alois Scheurich and his cousin Fridolin Greulich as a wholesaler in glass, porcelain and ceramics. In 1938, Scheurich settled in Kleinheubach (70 kilometers southeast of Frankfurt am Main). In 1948 the manufacture of household ceramics started.
In 1954, Scheurich ceased wholesale activities and focused entirely on making ceramics in-house. Initially they mainly made bowl dishes and ashtrays, but soon switched to vases and flower pots.
Scheurich's hegemony started in the late 1960s. Scheurich kept his prices low and combined with appealing designs, this resulted in millions of sales. Scheurich's strategy was to provide the same models with different decorations. The designs were adapted twice a year to the changing taste of the public.
