Description
Vintage biscuit tin by Verkade with a separate lid. The decoration of this tin consists of a light background with decorations in Hinderloopen style with use of color in blue, moss green, brown and more. The cream-colored background features colored floral motifs. On the sides are also flowers and a bird.

The tin dates from 1965 and was then used to store Langetjes. A Langetje is a crispy baked toast biscuit, sprinkled with cinnamon sugar.

Brand name printed in bottom of the tin "Koninklijke Verkade Fabrieken Zaandam Holland".

Condition
This tin is in a vintage condition with traces of use and age-related traces of wear.

Hindelooper painting  is folk art from the Frisian town of Hindeloopen in the Netherlands. The art was applied to bedstead walls, furniture, such as the flap-on-the-wall, coat hangers, travel cases, egg cups, etc. For the paintings, characteristic colors of red, blue, white and green were used. Sometimes other colors were used, such as brown, deadhead, yellow and cream.

The background of the paintwork has one color, such as red, cream white, blue or green.

The motifs included flowers and leaves, such as those of the acanthus. Floral motifs included tulips, poppy bulbs and roses. Animals were also depicted; especially birds of paradise, which would bring good luck. Larger works show biblical images, seascapes or allegorical female figures, such as the trio of faith, hope and love. The themes also came from classical mythology, for example in the form of sea god Poseidon. The motifs were found in record Bibles and picture books the motifs were found. The so-called porcelain technique is also used: flowers and leaves are painted on a cream-white background with monochrome paint. This simulates (Chinese or Delft) porcelain.
