Biscuit factory Patria in Amsterdam can boast of having announced the Rijksmuseum in many Dutch families. Many will remember the large biscuit drum - referred to as "kaakjes" in some parts of the country - with the Rijksmuseum's image embossed on the lid, found on many living room tables in the 1950s.
Cookies, biscuits and the well-known crackers were made at Patria. In 1978 the Patria factory on the Haarlemmerweg received a lot of attention all over the country. The women who worked there campaigned against the closure of the company. They even occupied the factory for a week. The factory eventually closed. It was demolished in 1981.
