H. Bahlsens Keksfabrik KG Hannover
Bahlsen is a German family business in the bakery industry based in Hanover. Today's Bahlsen GmbH & Co. KG was founded in 1889 by Hermann Bahlsen (1859-1919).
Today, production takes place in the factories in Barsinghausen near Hanover, in the Frisian province of Varel, in Berlin and in two factories in Poland.
In 1911, an administration building on Podbielskistrasse and a production building on Lister Strasse were built around the older factory in the List district of Hanover. The buildings are among the best architectural achievements of Art Nouveau in Hanover.
In the administration building, next to the foyer, there is a small and a large meeting room, which are decoratively decorated in Art Nouveau style. Among them are a colored wall frieze by Georg Herting, a five-meter-high colored window front by Adolf Hölzel and a photo frieze by Julius Diez entitled 'Die Göttin TET auf ihrem Thron'.
The images of the Leibniz cookie appear several times on the beautifully crafted natural stone facade made of Langensalza travertine. Today, baked goods are no longer produced at the company's original headquarters. The large building complex has been renovated and rebuilt. In addition to Bahlsen's administration, there is the Podbi-Park, a business district with offices, a hotel, municipal facilities (civic office, city library) and a shopping arcade.
