Cocoa powder comes from the cocoa bean, the fruit of the cocoa tree.
The cocoa mass of the cocoa bean is used to make cocoa powder. The mass is squeezed under high pressure to form cocoa powder and butter. The powder is available in many colours and flavours. That taste and colour are determined by the quality of the cocoa bean and the temperature of the roasting, but also by the acidity of the bean.
Cocoa powder is used to make chocolate and cocoa. It is also widely used as a finish on hot and cold drinks or desserts with chocolate. White chocolate does not contain cocoa powder, but cocoa butter.
