De Beukelaer biscuits
The company was founded in 1870 by Edward de Beukelaer, a young baker from Antwerp. De Beukelaer was the first industrial biscuit producer on the European mainland and became known far beyond the national borders. Train passengers enjoyed the wonderful scent when leaving the central station. This certainly contributed to the fact that Antwerp was called the "biscuit city". In addition to cookies, De Beukelaer also made chocolate bars. Many people remember the pictures in the wrappers. In the sixties the factory moved to Herentals. It is still the largest biscuit factory in Europe to this day. Since 2012, this has been done under the banner of Mondelēz International, the new name of Kraft Foods.

GBC (General Biscuit Company)
Générale Biscuit is a merger of Parein and De Beukelaer that took place in 1965. In 1986, Générale Biscuit itself was taken over by BSN-Gervais-Danone, which in 1994 changed its name to Groep Danone. The group chose to fully promote the biscuit brand LU.
