David Teniers (Antwerp 1582 - July 29, 1649) was a Southern Netherlandish painter of the Baroque period; he is called "the Elder" to distinguish him from his son David Teniers (II) the Younger and his grandson David Teniers (III).

David Teniers received his first painting training from his brother Juliaen, and was subsequently apprenticed to Rubens in Antwerp and Elsheimer in Rome; in 1606 he joined the Antwerp Guild of Saint Luke.

Teniers tried to make great religious, historical and mythological compositions; nevertheless, he was best known for his landscapes and village scenes, characterized by a living sense of humor, which are sometimes confused with the early work of his son David (II). He worked with Pieter Neeffs (I).

Work by this painter can be found in Saint Paul's Church (Antwerp), in Vienna, London, Saint Petersburg, Madrid, Brussels, Douai, Munich, Dresden and Berlin.

Teniers was also a successful dealer in paintings; it is known that in 1635 he was in Saint-Germain, Paris, with a large number of paintings by himself and his four sons.

David Teniers II, also called David Teniers the Younger (baptized in Antwerp, December 15, 1610 - Brussels, April 25, 1690), was a Flemish Baroque painter. He worked in many genres, including landscapes, portraits, genre pieces, art collections and still lifes. He was a painter at the Brussels court and curator of the art collection of Archduke Leopold William of Austria.

He worked mostly in Antwerp and Brussels, but lived in Perk from 1662. His father and son were also both named David Teniers and were both painters of a certain renown, even though they never became as famous as David Teniers the Younger. His younger brother Abraham Teniers was also a painter and worked with him.
