Description
Rectangular vintage tin with a hinged lid. The decoration of this tin consists of a gold-colored background with dark brown details. The lid shows an image of the English fox hunt with various riders on horseback and a pack of hunting dogs.

The front and back are decorated with pheasant, fox and partridge. An image of a dog's head on both sides.

Condition
This tin is in an original vintage condition with normal traces of use and age-related traces of wear. Photos are part of the description.

Fox hunting (hunting)
A fox hunt is an organized hunting party in which usually a group of riders on horseback with the help of a pack of hunting dogs such as fox terriers chase and corner a fox.

The Dutch variant of this kind of cyclocross rides within equestrian sports is called 'drag hunting'. No real fox is chased, but the scent trail for the dogs is set by dragging scent-sprinkled cloths over the route to be followed. This variant is known internationally as "Hubertusrit". The riders are traditionally dressed in a chic hunting outfit consisting of black or two-colored riding boots, white riding breeches, red or black riding jacket, riding gloves, riding crop and a riding cap or top hat.

Fox hunting was a tradition in the English countryside, against which more and more, sometimes even violent, protests came from militant animal defenders. Since 2004, this traditional form of hunting has been banned in England by the hunting act. Despite the ban, the sport is still practised here and there, mainly by the well-to-do, who can still afford this sport and for whom it is an important social event.

In Anglo-Saxon countries one speaks of a steeplechase to indicate a comparable fast ride over a wide obstacle course. This race is a stylized variation of the original fox hunts on horseback.
