Maggi is a brand of ready-to-eat soup, stock, stock cubes, ketchup, sauces and noodles. The brand is part of Nestlé.

The Maggi brand was founded in Switzerland in 1872 by Julius Maggi. He wanted to provide the working class with high nutritional value food through the brand. In 1886 he developed the first ready-to-eat soups of which the legume powder was an important ingredient in addition to flavorings. That same year he launched the Maggi aroma in the brown bottle with the long neck. This product became so popular that the herbal plant lovage, which has a similar scent, became popularly known as Maggi herb, even though this plant is not a component of the aroma at all. In 1897 Julius Maggi founded the company Maggi GmbH in the German city of Singen. In 1908, the first bouillon cube followed, then called “maggi cube”.

In 1947 Maggi was acquired as a brand by Nestlé.

In the Netherlands Maggi was imported from 1897 by Paul Horn, from 1912 Paul Horn & Co. In 1925, the company name was renamed Maggi's Food Factory. This firm then left the Raamgracht for an office with storage space on the Haarlemmerweg, until then used by Electrotechnical bureau Groeneveld & van der Pol. Paul Horn left in 1930. Maggi had the building converted in 1933/1934 into a production location for the Maggi brand, which was opened at Haarlemmerweg in Amsterdam. In 1994 this production location was moved to a new factory in Venray. Maggi has not been produced in the Netherlands since 2005.
