  • Manufacturer: John Mackintosh & Sons ltd Halifax & Nordwich
  • Manufacturing date: 1970s - 1980s

Description
High cylindrical tin for Mackintosh's Quality Street equipped with a loose lid and a seamed longitudinal seam on the back. The decoration of this tin consists of a panorama of various images of the famous lady and soldier.

The origins of the lady and soldier who have been the image of Mackintosh's chocolate fudge for decades is surprising. They are, in fact, characters from a play called "Quality Street". This piece was written by J.M. Barrie, the creator of Peter Pan. Apparently, the play inspired the sweet makers of Mackintosh so much that they took the name of their then-new product directly after it.

Marked at the bottom: "John Mackintosh's Quality Street".

Quality Street is the brand name of a series of candies in the form of bonbons.

Quality Street was created in 1936 by Mackintosh's firm and named after James Barrie's play of the same name, which was then filmed. Today, Quality Street is distributed by Nestlé.

Quality Street is available in round tin drums and rectangular cardboard boxes. The tins often feature an image of two characters from the play. The main color is always purple.

Mackintosh Toffee is a sweet made by John Mackintosh.

Mackintosh opened his candy store in Halifax, Yorkshire, England in 1890. The idea for Mackintosh Toffee, not too hard and not too soft, came soon after. In 1969, Mackintosh's joined with rival Rowntree to continue as Rowntree Mackintosh, which merged with Nestlé in 1988.
