Chamotte is a baked clay product that is used for a wide variety of purposes.
Chamotte is used from finely ground to grains of 2 mm or even larger. The finer fractions up to the size of a coarse grain of sand are mainly used as reinforcement in modeling clay, by mixing soft clay with fine grains of chamotte for fine modeling, or by mixing soft clay with coarse chamotte grains for coarser and stronger modeling work.
The fractions up to 2 mm or larger are used in the refractory industry. Due to the Al2O3 (aluminum oxide) content of chamotte, which is 45%, it has a heat resistance up to 1300 ° C.
