Description
Beautiful set of four pastel colored soup bowls in the 1950s and 60s in yellow and blue produced by Villeroy & Boch Luxembourg for Royco. Marked on the bottom: Villeroy & Boch made in Luxembourg.

Royco was a brand of the American Lipton, registered in 1933 by its subsidiary Royal Estate Tea Company, which became part of Unilever in 1937.

Royco was best known for "Cup-a-soup". Originally Cup-a-Soup is a product name of the Royco brand.

Royco Cup-a-Soup was introduced in 1971 according to Unilever's corporate history. Today this is a Unox product. Gradually all Royco products changed into Unox products. The Royco brand disappeared completely in the Netherlands, in Belgium both brands, Royco and Cup-a-Soup, continued to co-exist.

Condition
These Royco soup bowls are in an original condition with traces of use and age-related traces of wear. Two bowls are in neat condition. 1 soup bowl has a chip on the edge. 1 soup bowl has a chip and a hairline crack on the inside. Photos are part of the description.

Villeroy & Boch AG is a European company with headquarters in Mettlach in the Saarland (Germany). The company makes both sanitary and table culture. The table culture department comprises porcelain services (plates, coffee and tea services) and porcelain decoration. In the second half of the 20th century, cutlery and objects in crystal were also added (crystal dinnerware, carafes, gift items).

The company started in the village of Audun-le-Tiche in Lorraine, where François Boch and his three sons started a pottery workshop in 1748. In 1767 the company moved to nearby Luxembourg as a result of the annexation of Lorraine by France. The company thus faced competition from numerous French pottery producers and was also cut off from its largest market, Luxembourg. The company obtained exemption from import and export taxes from the Austrian administration of the then Southern Netherlands. The company settled in Septfontaines and was transformed into a porcelain factory. In 1809 Jean-François Boch opened a factory in Mettlach, Germany. On April 14, 1836, the company merged with that of Nicolas Villeroy to become Villeroy & Boch (V&B).

In 1976 the Heinrich porcelain factory from Selb (Bavaria) was taken over. Since 1990, the company's shares have been traded on the German stock exchange. Although family members still work at Villeroy & Boch, the management is no longer in the hands of a family member. A ceramics museum was founded by V&B in Mettlach.
