R.J. Kahrel Tea merchant Groningen
The firm R.J. Kahrel was a tea planter with plantations in the Dutch East Indies and tea traders in Groningen and Germany.
In the great recession, the tea trade becomes too narrow a base. In January 1938, Kahrel first launched an advertising campaign in the illustrated magazines. "The name 'Kahrel' is mentioned with special esteem by tea planters and connoisseurs," the advertisements said. At the end of January the announcement will follow that Uncle Kahrel will now also supply coffee.
In the sixties, Kahrel teamed up with the coffee roaster Drie Mollen in 's-Hertogenbosch. Drie Mollen used the image of Uncle Kahrel in its company logo. This company was later merged into the multinational United Coffee.
