Hofnar is a brand of cigars and was one of the most important cigar factories in Valkenswaard. The factory's origins date back to 1880, when Jacobus Heesterbeek founded a cigar factory after a disagreement with his previous employer, the Texas cigar factories of Hoekx en Maas.
The storytelling picture
This is the best known and most sought after school poster. Several generations grew up with the reading method "Monkey-nut-mies". This record was published by Wolters. And this is the post-war release of the redesigned 1932 version. The previous version didn't have a milk car yet and the clothes were different. In 1932 C Jetses was commissioned by the Wolters company to "modernize" the plates and the reading shelf. The clothing was adapted and a milk car was also included in the drawing in the background as a mark of progress.
The original storytelling picture is a school picture with a size of 82 by 110 cm. The picture on the story picture was made by Jetses and is also known as "the school picture with the monkey on the roof" or the "school picture of Ot and Sien". Everything appears on the storytelling picture, as it can also be seen on the reading shelf. For example, there is a Monkey on the roof and a Noot, Mies and Wim etc. etc. The story picture of the first Aap-noot-mies edition was printed in 9 colors while the later edition is in more colors. The image on the plate has been slightly modified. For example, the cyclist has been replaced by a car and clothes have become more modern before that time.
