Description
Tin drum with a loose lid. This beautiful tin is richly decorated with various multicoloured scenes. Beautifully drawn images from the Romantic era on both the can and the lid. The tin and the lid both have a rolled edge at the bottom. The tin can has a seamed longitudinal seam at the back.

The decoration of this tin canister or drum consists of a continuous drawing that takes place around the departure or arrival of travellers per diligence. We see, among other things, the loading of the personal belongings of the travellers, such as suitcases and boxes. A parting couple and a pipe-smoking gentleman who is wobbly on his stool waiting for him to leave.

This tin is a true spectacle in itself... In short, a beautiful specimen!

A diligence is a well-suspended stagecoach for passenger transport.

Until the 20th century, roads were generally little more than cart tracks. Paved roads (street roads or paved roads) were an exception. Wheel tires were made of wood or steel, the rubber tire was not invented until 1841.

Travelling in a horse-drawn carriage meant that people were shaken up and - especially on a long journey - arrived broken to the wheel. There was therefore a desire to achieve a better suspension. After the invention of the carriage, which made travelling a lot more pleasant for the elite, the stagecoach for general use arose in the 18th century.
