Jumbo: 170 Years of Quality and Fun in Board and Family Games!

In the heart of Amsterdam, the story of Jumbo began in 1853 when the driven German traveller Engelbert Hausemann established his "Agency and Commission Business in Sundries." This humble enterprise grew into the renowned game publisher and manufacturer Hausemann & Hötte, which we still enjoy today.

In 1860, Wilhelm Hötte, Engelbert Hausemann's nephew, joined the company as an employee. In 1873, he started his own business, and eventually, on December 27, 1882, Hausemann & Hötte merged their forces as the firm Hausemann & Hötte. After five years, at an advanced age, Engelbert Hausemann decided to retire on December 31, 1887. The partnership was dissolved, and Wilhelm Hötte continued the business under the same name.

The year 1947 marked an important moment in Jumbo's history when the very first brochure featuring Jumbo games was released. The opening item on the first page was none other than the iconic game "Mens erger je niet!" Other titles from that time included "Hamertje Tik," "Ganzenbord," "Lotto," "Pim Pam Pet," "Halma," and "Dobbertje Duik." Alongside these games, the Meccano and Schuco brands were also significant pillars for the company.

Today, Jumbo's range encompasses not only beloved classics such as "Stratego," "Mens erger je niet!," and "Pim-pam-pet," but also an extensive educational series called "ik leer..." Even well-known question-and-answer games like "Electro" have received a contemporary makeover to stay up to date.

In recognition of their outstanding contribution to the game industry, Hausemann & Hötte were granted the title of "Royal" in 1978, a well-deserved honour for their years of dedication and innovation.

For over a century and a half, Jumbo has been synonymous with high-quality games that provide fun and entertainment for young and old. With a rich history and an ongoing focus on quality and innovation, Jumbo remains the choice for anyone seeking memorable playtime moments. Discover the magic of Jumbo and let yourself be transported to a world full of game enjoyment!
